Girl Scouts Prepared for Weather Emergencies
In Girl Scouting, safety is always first-especially at camp.  As part of orientation upon arriving at camp, all campers are given instruction in what to do in the case of an emergency at camp.
The camp director monitors weather alerts, an all unit leaders carry portable walkie-talkies, which allow constant contact for emergencies.  In severe inclement weather, all campers and staff go to designated areas for shelter.  At Camp Cardinal, campers are sheltered in the bath house and the pool house buildings.  Camp Judy Layne has an underground area beneath the Dinning Hall where all campers can be sheltered in the event of sever weather.
Kentucky's Wilderness Road Council has a well-supervised  program and staff.  The first thing girls learn before doing any activity is the safety procedures involved.  All staff are certified in First Aid and CPR.
Camp site managers live at Camp Judy Layne and Camp Cardinal year-round.  The Council works closely with local law enforcement agencies as well as fire departments and the U.S Forest Service to assure campers' safety.
In an emergency, contact: Jan "Tonto" Davis, camp director, at either Camp Cardinal, June 8 to 27, 2008, 606-286-2163 or Camp Judy Layne, July 3 to August 3, 2008, 606-768-2629.

How will your daughter benefit from these activities?

She will have fun, be challenged, and become more self confident.  Her self-esteem will increase, she will make new friends and improve her social skills.  She will learn to work as a member of a team and be responsible while practicing new skills.
